Fitness supreme: My Body Fix

What does it take to beat out hundreds of gyms nationwide and become Aotearoa’s Supreme Exercise Facility? Meet the Christchurch-local winner.

Crowned with the prestigious title of Supreme Exercise Facility at the Exercise New Zealand Industry 2025 Awards, Christchurch’s BodyFix gym has punched above it’s weight to beat out the best from across the country. Founder Moana Williams could not be prouder of the ambitious boutique gym she started in 2011. As well as Supreme Facility, Bodyfix also won the 2025 award for best Independent Facility.

The secret to this success? “There’s a fun, family feel here and we offer a personal touch,” Moana says. “The vibe attracts the tribe, like-minded people refer friends, so membership grows naturally.”

Judges were quick to shout out her defining leadership (reflected by exceptional staff retention and a strong, stable team culture), and were equally impressed by the facility’s innovative, digital strategy (forward-thinking that improves support and service).

But being recognised as New Zealand’s single most outstanding facility – and claiming fame in the fitness world – doesn’t change what this gym is all about. “We’re one of a kind as opposed to a chain gym, and we take such deep investment in our clients. We offer a welcoming, supportive environment no matter how fit or unfit you feel you are. We encourage people to take a healthy approach to feeling fit, healthy and happy. It’s not just about weight loss, it comes from within.”

Inside, BodyFix offers a full weights and cardio room packed with advanced equipment, a spin class-specific space, a workout room for group exercise classes, a luxurious changing area with shower facilities, and a team of professional instructors. It’s a great social environment where trainers become part of your life and friends, but that doesn’t mean they’ll let you relax during a workout. “They motivate you to keep pushing through on those days when you feel like you can’t. There’s something very motivating about your gym instructors knowing you on a first name basis, and winding you up about missed sessions. Knowing our members on an individual basis allows the team to encourage and motivate their clients, and it gives members more accountability for their own workouts,” Moana explains.

According to the Exercise New Zealand judges, BodyFix delivers a powerful first impression. “The exterior is clean, bold, and inviting, setting the tone long before anyone steps inside. Guests are met with warm smiles on arrival, instantly creating a sense of belonging. Inside, the space strikes a rare balance: the warm, energetic atmosphere of a boutique gym combined with the comfort and familiarity of home. Quirky signage, character-filled knick-knacks, and unique artwork bring personality to every wall, while even the bathroom features thoughtful touches and uplifting messages that elevate the overall experience. The lively buzz of happy gym-goers reflects a space where people feel motivated, supported, and truly at ease.”

Judges were just as impressed by the facility’s clarity of purpose and deeply embedded values. “BodyFix carries a clear mission… to ‘make a difference in people’s lives.’” They have seven defined values with specific behaviours, and these are strongly embedded into hiring, coaching, recognition, and leadership.” This values-led approach is reflected in every aspect of the club, from structured programming to exceptional community engagement – judges praised the ethos of giving back, acknowledging that “community giving adds credibility.”

The gym’s measurable success was equally compelling. The judging panel noted that BodyFix achieved all benchmarks within the first 90 days, describing the results as evidence of a well-run, high-performing organisation. With its creative and enjoyable environment, unwavering commitment to community, BodyFix Christchurch demonstrates what excellence looks like in New Zealand’s exercise industry.
