Summer’s approaching. How are you spending it?

Just 25 minutes north of Christchurch by car, you’ll find The Rusty Acre – a hidden gem where creativity and nature come together. This enchanting gift store is set within an art sculpture garden that comes alive in summer.

With more than 80 handmade sculptures scattered throughout gardens with ponds, orchards, herbs and a flourishing vegetable patch, it’s a unique place full of beauty and talent.

Inside, the gift shop is filled with home décor and vintage treasures. The Rusty Acre began when garden owner Andrea Wadsworth and her partner Allan O’Loughlin bought an empty section in 1992. “Everything in the garden we’ve planted ourselves, and now it is well established,” Andrea says.

“Visitors can wander the gardens, soak up the peaceful atmosphere and marvel at the art. It’s a favourite spot for visiting groups. Garden clubs, retirement villages, and car enthusiasts can stop by during the week by appointment, bringing their own tea or coffee to enjoy in the gardens.”

The Rusty Acre is open Friday to Sunday, 10am to 4pm, 1 Roscrea Place, Mandeville. Entrance off Mchughs Rd. Enquiries to Andrea on 021 146 6426 or email therustyacre@gmail.com.
