Beer bread
With its lightly sweet flavour, buttery beer bread is a classic loaf made by dads on camping trips across the world.
One of the simplest breads you can make, beer bread has just six ingredients: flour, baking powder, table salt, sugar, beer, and melted butter. Beer, of course, is the hero. The type you use is down to personal preference and how much you want to taste it in the baked loaf. For a flavour that doesn’t overpower the loaf, choose lighter lager-style beers and avoid brews like IPAs and strong stouts.
Ingredients
- 3 cups sifted all-purpose flour
- 1 Tbsp baking powder
- 1 tsp table salt
- 2 to 4 Tbsp granulated sugar, depending on how sweet you like your bread
- 330ml bottle of beer, room temperature
- 2 Tbsp butter, melted (28gm), plus extra for greasing the loaf pan
Method
Preheat oven to 190°C and grease a loaf pan. In a bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients. Mix in the beer. Spoon batter into the loaf pan and spread it out to reach all four corners. Drizzle with the melted butter.
Bake for 35-55 minutes, until the top is golden. Cool on a wire rack and serve warm or room temperature.
