Thousands of visitors annually visit The Hurunui Garden Festival, the region’s premier garden event.
“Our stunning North Canterbury gardens are some of the most inspirational private gardens New Zealand has to offer,” Jenny Cooper says, who will feature her garden in the festival.
“We offer something to delight and inspire every gardener or group, from the intimate and whimsical, to the grand and formal, with beautiful herbaceous borders, native plantings, tree-lined avenues, or cosy seating areas,” Jenny adds. 
The gardens are all a peaceful drive from Christchurch, and as a self-driven event, you have the freedom to plan your itinerary and enjoy some of the delights of the region along the way. These include fabulous local food, wineries, historic homes, and local art and artisans.
At each property, the owners will be on hand to tell stories and share their advice and knowledge. Many gardens offer refreshments, plant stalls, gardening workshops, art exhibitions and live entertainment.
