Make it a mocktail

Refreshing, fruity, and sometimes frozen are all words we associate with the drinks we enjoy during the summer months.

Virgin cocktails, or mocktails, become a simple alternative when we desire a break from alcohol. Just as easy, just as delicious, but possibly healthier. Plus, almost any mocktail can be made frozen for the days we need an escape from the heat. Metropol’s picked two favourite summer drinks, that can be enjoyed chilled or frozen.

Pina colada

Fresh, creamy, a pina colada tastes like a tropical holiday.

Ingredients

  • 120ml pineapple juice
  • 60ml coconut cream
  • Pineapple wedges, glacé cherries, to garnish

Method

  1. Blend all ingredients together until a smooth, creamy mixture.
  2. Pour into a Tiki glass and garnish with a fresh pineapple wedge, and glacé cherry.
  3. To make it frozen, freeze your pineapple juice into an ice tray, creating frozen pineapple chunks in replacement.

Classic margarita

A treasured summer’s drink, a margarita can be enjoyed simply or with added fruity flavours such as passionfruit and strawberry.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 fresh limes
  • 1/2 medium orange, juiced
  • 1/2 medium lemon, juiced
  • Sparkling water to finish
  •  Sweetener of choice, to taste
  • Extra lime wedges, to garnish
  • Salt, to garnish

Method

  1. Run a lime around the rim of your glass and dip into salt. Fill with ice.
  2. To a cocktail shaker, add lime, orange, and lemon juice, sweetener, and shake to combine.
  3. Pour into your glass and top with your preference of sparkling water and a lime wedge.
  4. For a frozen margarita, simply blend the ingredients with a handful or two of ice depending on your thickness preference.
