Get the glam

Getting glammed for a special occasion often means a more dramatic makeup look than day-to-day.

But for those who don’t feel confident rocking a bold red lip or a dramatic winged liner, then opting for ‘soft-glam’ might be for you. Soft glam has a very effortless, diffused, and almost ethereal look, and is all about enhancing your natural features.

Here are a few tips on how to achieve a glam look, and still feel like you.

Prep properly
To achieve a flawless base, you need to start with the correct skin prep. Complete your usual skincare routine, ensuring you are left with a clean face, before applying your moisturiser and SPF if you are attending an outside event. Next, you want to apply a primer, to help your foundation stay put and look gorgeous all day. You can opt for a glowy primer to keep your skin looking luminous and healthy.

Blend away
You want to avoid any harsh lines when applying foundation, so blending is key and a sponge is a great way to achieve a smooth application. Opt for a buildable foundation and start with less. This way you can build the coverage to your liking. You can then go in with a concealer to touch up any areas you want more coverage, or to brighten the under eye. Set your foundation with a light setting powder, to help it last.

Contour and colour
Contour is used to mimic the shadows of your face to define, whereas bronzer is a way to warm up your complexion. It is important to know the difference between these two and to achieve a softer look, a bronze diffused approach is better than a sharply defined contour. Adding a touch of blush to the cheeks is a great way to bring a rosy glow to the face. Finish with a dusting of highlighter on your cheekbones.

In the eyes
The eyes are often the star of the show and is where you can have a little fun. Smoky neutrals suit all eye colours, and are a timeless glam look. You can add a simple shimmer or sheen to the lid to make the whites of your eyes pop. Or if you want something more, adding a hint of the colour that you are wearing in your outfit can tie a look together. Using liner to shape the eyes will add more intensity.
