Collaborative design reaps awards

The NKBA (National Kitchen Bathroom Association) Awards is one of the most highly anticipated events of the year for interior designers.

For entrants to the NKBA awards, achieving a win in any of its categories is an accolade to be proud of, but to be a first-time entrant and win four awards is recognition indeed.

Modi Design won the Bathroom Distinction Award $50k+, the Creative Excellence Bathroom Design Award, the First Time Entrant Bathroom Award, and the Kitchen Distinction Award – $60-$90k.

“We entered a kitchen and ensuite bathroom and were so grateful to have both submissions receive awards,” Modi owner and designer Georgia Langridge says.

The judging process involves a lot more than submitting attractive photos of entries. “For each submission we have to supply all our technical drawings and specifications of how the joinery will be constructed and for these drawings to meet certain criteria.”

A document that contains the client brief and the scientific and aesthetic reasoning behind the design must accompany the drawings. The tiling for the bathroom was a major consideration and was carried out by Brymac Tiles.

“The palette was stripped back and neutral based, so it was important to balance the tones but still provide interest with contrasting sinuous marble-like veins against linear structured tiles.”

“We use Brymac Tiles for a lot of our work – their product is amazing, and their communication makes working with them such a pleasure.”
Georgia’s team includes interior designers Fleur and Beth, and marketing guru Hannah. “With Fleur and Beth joining us, we have been able to cover all aspects within the interior envelope.”

Georgia says it has been nice to collectively get recognition from the NKBA awards and give back in that way. “It’s also phenomenal brand exposure for us, NKBA is such an incredible association.”
