Artistic self-expression: Art Metro
Annika Mäenpää teaches a children’s afterschool painting programme, a drawing class and a Thursday evening adults’ painting class at Art Metro.
Annika says being part of her students’ own artistic journey and helping them realise and reach their potential is most fulfilling.
“When everything starts to come together, you can see the excitement and feeling of achievement in their eyes. I love teaching here because it’s such
a positive environment for creating art.”
Annika’s advice to those feeling anxious as to their ability to make it happen at the easel, is to take it one step at a time and trust the process.
“An empty canvas can seem intimidating, but once you get going, it gets easier. The most important thing is to enjoy yourself.”
In 2019 Annika received her Bachelor’s degree in Art Education from the University of Lapland. Most of Annika’s recent exhibitions have featured her digital artworks. She sees art as a way of expressing herself, going beyond written or spoken words.
“I hope people can find meaning and something to relate to when looking at my work and come to their own conclusions. I hope my art raises questions more than gives clear answers.”
