Organic, plant-based haircare: Shambhala Hair Design

Today, too many products contain potentially harmful chemicals.

These synthetic materials and ingredients go into our bodies and can be incredibly harmful. Haircare is no exception. Teo Munro, founder of Shambhala Hair Design, (pictured right) explains that the chemicals in most haircare products such as sulphates, parabens and silicones “can strip the scalp of its natural oils and further weaken already fragile hair”. This particularly concerns those going through cancer treatments or menopause, she says.

Working in the hair industry for 17 years, Teo realised the dangers of working with harsh chemical-laden products. She stepped away and opened her own hair salon with “a new organic approach”. Twenty years on, Teo’s salon, Shambhala Hair Design, is thriving.

Alongside her team, she works only with organic products made from plant-based ingredients that nourish and strengthen hair. They aim to combat the harsh side effects, allergic reactions and sensitivity that chemicals often trigger.

Their products “contain essential oils, vitamins and minerals that are gentle on your scalp and help promote healthy hair growth”; the importance of which is often underestimated, Teo says. Shambhala is also collaborating alongside three other businesswoman, bringing to life The Woman’s Wellness Collective group workshops, educating participants about the importance of transitioning to organic alternatives. Avoid unnecessary exposure to harmful chemicals in your haircare. Choose organic, she advises.
