On-form florals
Various moods of floral fashion bloom at least a little each season, but this time it’s flowers gone retro wild. They are untamed and they’re out there; bold, bright and garishly gorgeous.
It is a season that flower power has never quite seen before, plucked from the sentimentality of the vintage curtains, sofas and wallpapers of yesteryear. It’s not the demure fade-away antiqued look – it’s purposeful and striking. This trend emerges in a contemporary, fresh statement of joie de vivre.
Adorn a mixed bouquet upon black, hot Hawaiian hibiscuses, a glamorous rose that takes over an entire skirt frontage, electric fuchsia petals on a lime-green background, psychedelic yellow or mustard florals in swirly dizzying patterns, foliage merging with botanical flowers, or you can choose a ditzy posy-print for a change up. Reminiscent of carefree summer days in the ’60s and ’70s, these florals add feminine flounce to off-the-shoulder, baby doll, maxi, wrap, and floaty-sleeved dresses.
Clash if you can with items sporting spots, stripes, or checks. The welcomed carnival of colour means mixing without matching. If you love to stand out, and even shock, this is certainly the season to bloom – but for the shrinking violets, there is plenty of flora to hide behind.
