From Here on the Ground: Christchurch Art Gallery
Coming to Christchurch Art Gallery this May, From Here on the Ground is a fascinating collection of art from 20th century Aotearoa artists exploring urban, suburban, and industrial landscapes.
From Here on the Ground features works from Christchurch Art Gallery’s collection supplemented by pieces on loan from throughout New Zealand, including some of the country’s leading artists.
The exhibition shows Christchurch as a cultural hub in the period, with many of the artists having studied together or taught at the Canterbury College School of Art. “It was a real centre of creativity and production, and there’s a lot of evidence of artists sparking off what each other were doing,” says curator Ken Hall.
The exhibition runs from 18 May to 17 November 2024, and includes a talk with Ken, at 1pm, Saturday 18 May at the gallery.
