Artist spotlight: The Wax Birds

Husband and wife duo Joanna and Peter Green began their musical endeavour in 2020.

This initiated a shared musical journey as The Wax Birds, built on an unshaken belief in the transformative power of music. So, transform your next event with their melodies. From corporate to private events and parties, the duo can set the ambience you desire.

Well-oiled, they’ve released two albums of warm, homespun Folk-Americana, with their next, A Steady Hope, out on 9 August, and toured extensively throughout Aotearoa. With nostalgic songs and alluring harmonies, they’ve earned a name for themselves as a band on the rise. Last year, The Wax Birds were finalists for the MLT Songwriter’s Awards, and in 2024 they continue to grow the craft as both lyricists and performers.

As comfortable commanding the stage at a festival as they are entrancing a crowd in an intimate venue, a Wax Birds live show is an enchanting experience. With an exquisite, reminiscent sound of luminaries Justin Townes Earle and Greg Brown, and a third album on the horizon, now is the time to catch this up-and-coming duo live. Say you saw them before they truly took off.

9 August: Black Beech Wine Bar, Oxford
17 August: Go Live Festival, Christchurch Town Hall
24 August: Sumner Social
