Professional baker Sam Stakenburg believes a wedding cake should be a lot more than just a cake plonked in the corner of a room.

The greatest asset, Sam says she brings to her business, The Sugar Room, is her eye for detail – that and her passion for baking, which started in her early childhood.

“Every cake should stand out as a showpiece, and, most importantly every cake should tell a story.”
One piece of advice Sam has for couples is to not be afraid of colour or design. “Whatever they have in mind for their cake, I want to know. It’s their big day and I’m definitely up for the challenge.”
Though her work schedule often sees early morning starts and late nights, the mother of three says what she loves about her work is how it brings happiness to others.

“I love every second, and I love every single cake that leaves my kitchen.”
