Leanne Lovell of Victoria Florists has worked with flowers for more than 40 years and keeps an eye on what’s emerging.
“Right now, I’d describe the look as whimsical,” Leanne says, “Instead of raising arrangements on pedestals, we’re styling them low to the ground. Table displays are smaller, often set in delicate glass bottles, and the flower choice leans towards daisies, gypsophila and cosmos, with little or no additional greenery.”
While a bouquet that looks freshly gathered may appear simple, Leanne says the effect requires considerable skill. “A ‘just-picked’ bouquet still needs strong structure. The blooms must be carefully placed so they sit beautifully during the ceremony and photograph perfectly.”
Leanne says brides can feel confident of having the widest choice when they come to see her. “We’re the largest buyer of flowers in Christchurch, and we can also have blooms flown in from Auckland.”
Her advice to brides? Book a consultation early to discuss your vision and confirm which flowers will be in season. “We’ll ensure the flowers on your wedding day look fresh and effortless.”
