Fresh from the oven, the North Canterbury pie trail is your taste of the region’s best bakeries, pastry crumbs and all.

Buttery, comforting, and a beloved staple across New Zealand, who doesn’t want to travel a pie trail? Until 31 July, locals and visitors are invited to taste their way around 18 participating pie stops from Rangiora to Hanmer Springs. Packed with Kiwi humour, delicious detours, and plenty of warm pastry, it’s the perfect excuse to get out during winter and support local businesses (while discovering your next favourite pie).

Home to award-winning bakeries, cafés and eateries, North Canterbury offers everything from mince and cheese classics to gourmet creations featuring local ingredients, with a number of special pie creations available throughout the month.

The trail showcases the region from coast to high country, with something for every pie lover to enjoy along the way.

As you tick off each pie spot, you’re encouraged to share a snap on social media (tagging @ncpietrail and #ncpietrail), with every review counting towards the overall winner. “We saw hundreds of reviews come through, people travelling across North Canterbury to tick off pie stops, and so many locals and visitors getting behind our fantastic bakeries and eateries.

Woodend Bakery received the most reviews during last year’s Pie Trail, so we’re looking forward to seeing which pie stop earns those bragging rights this year,” says Kelly Lynch, marketing specialist at Enterprise North Canterbury.
