The spring selling season is well underway and Trade Me Property has seen a surge in new listings. In September, national listings were up close to six per cent year-on-year and nearly 19 per cent from August. We also saw property searches by prospective buyers skyrocket by more than 24 per cent compared to September 2024.
This all suggests confidence is growing and Canterbury as a region is a standout performer. In September, the median days on site for properties across Canterbury decreased by six days compared to a year ago, sitting at an average of 51 days. That’s well ahead of the national average of 65 days.
In terms of value, the average asking price in Canterbury is down -1.1 per cent year-on-year, but it did tick up between August and September, +1.1 per cent. Interestingly, the biggest increases in property prices across the year to September 2025 were Timaru, up +4.5 per cent, Ashburton, up +3.1 per cent and Waimakariri up +2.2 per cent.
