Race day favourite: The Golden Mile

For horse owners, Cup and Show Week is a time of celebration – and one of the biggest moments on any Cantabrian’s calendar.
For The Golden Mile Tavern owner Murray Hollamby, Cup and Show Week is a significant event. With gallopers of his own as well as sponsored races in the Motukarara harness races, his venue is the place to be for racing events. One of the tavern’s busiest weeks of the year, the races are shown on their big screen, as well as live music played on Cup Day and the last Saturday of the week. The Golden Mile offers a Lindauer lawn, prizes and complimentary food for pubgoers to enjoy.
“We offer the full race day experience without the queues,” says The Golden Mile’s Kelly Downing. A beautifully decorated pub and lively atmosphere make the tavern a local for many racegoers and members of the racing community.
Just a 12 minute drive from Riccarton Racecourse, and a 14 minute drive from Addington Raceway, The Golden Mile Tavern, with accommodation available, is your place to set up base during Cup and Show Week.
