Historic red and black pride for Canterbury Rugby has a new place to call gather and call home.

Last weekend’s Canterbury Rugby housewarming against Auckland felt like more than a first match in our new home. With Shapeshifter electrifying the occasion and red and black pulsing through the city, Canterbury Rugby brought something essential to One New Zealand Stadium at Te Kaha: its provincial heartbeat.

As a Canterbury Rugby director, I can attest to how deliberate this has been. The modernised brand was not a change for change’s sake. It was about carrying our history into a new era, owning the red and black, and ensuring Canterbury Rugby is primed for the opportunity ahead.

That opportunity is about more than where we play. It is about who is a part of it. The return of The Embankment with $10 general admission, $5 Take a Kid to Footy tickets, family passes, and full occasion matchdays all reflect the commitment to make Canterbury Rugby the most accessible sporting experience in the stadium.

Great stadiums are not just concrete and seats. At their best, they become gathering places where the whole region shares the experience. Not just a stadium in Canterbury, but Canterbury brought into the stadium – families, clubs, volunteers and supporters sharing the same red-and-black moment.

Now Cantabrians can carry that red-and-black pride across the NPC and FPC seasons, including our defending NPC champions.
