Man with a plan: Christchurch City Mayor Phil Mauger

Summer might be winding down, but we’re gearing up for a big year ahead.

We’ve just adopted the draft Annual Plan, which you’ll be able to give your feedback on. It sets out what the Council intends to do over the next 12 months, and how we will pay for it. These decisions help shape our region, so I really encourage everyone to take a look at the plan and have your say. You can find the plan on the Council website at ccc.govt.nz.

February’s a significant month for Christchurch as we mark the 15th anniversary of the 2011 Canterbury earthquakes.

We’ll be having a ceremony down at the Oi Manawa, the Canterbury National Earthquake Memorial, by the Avon River on 22 February, with a minute of silence at 12.51pm to remember those lives that were lost. It’s important to take a moment this month to reflect on the impact the quakes have had on our district and community.

Having Australasia’s biggest music festival return to Hagley Park is a testament to how far we’ve come in 15 years. Personally, I can’t wait for Electric Avenue on the 27th and 28th of this month. We’re expecting tens of thousands of out-of-town visitors, so it’s a fantastic chance to show off our city.

Christchurch is about to have a buzz about town, so get out there and enjoy all the good things happening.
