Keen for a taste of Vietnamese without having to leave the country?

Ethnic restaurants bring us the opportunity to enjoy the culture and cuisine of different countries from the comfort of our city. Take Vietnam for example. The taste of its vibrant street food culture is now available in Rolleston with Hanoi 90s, an Asian fusion-style restaurant owned by husband and wife duo Frank Nguyen and Jane Truong.

“We are both from Hanoi and were born in the 1990s – hence the name of the restaurant,” explains Jane. “We share a love of food and wanted to bring our homeland to this new space so that our customers would get a sense of where we are from. Rolleston is a great location and we have felt real support from the locals since opening.”

The colours and furnishings are fresh and modern, yet with a taste of the traditional. It’s the same sentiment for the food. “Our Thai chefs blend authentic Southeast Asian dishes with contemporary flair using bold flavours and quality ingredients.”

Particularly popular on the menu are the lamb ribs with cumin, the salmon ceviche, the lamb shank rendang, the red duck curry, the pork on noodles and the sizzling fish steak – all dishes that demonstrate traditional with a modern twist.

“It’s a pleasure to see customers enjoying our food,” the pair say.
