Festive food is described (Collins dictionary) as ‘special, colourful, or exciting,’ especially because of a holiday and celebration.
Traditional western Christmas food includes ham, turkey with cranberry sauce, trifle, and plum pudding with brandy sauce, although many countries have developed their own options especially in warmer climes. In New Zealand, for example, it wouldn’t be Christmas without pavlova, strawberries and whipped cream, while in Australia prawns on the barbecue are almost mandatory. Americans love their turkey with mashed potatoes and gravy, and sweet potato pie, in contrast to Kiwis who enjoy new season’s potatoes and cold salads.
Whatever your taste, why not try something different this Christmas and start a new family tradition?
