In the city for Cup and Show Week? It’s a great opportunity to explore the charm of the countryside at this Kirwee restaurant and bar.

For Kirwee restaurant owner Jono Alve, the journey is worth the effort. “People often tell us they love the drive out here because it’s a chance to escape the city bustle and just simply relax with a great meal and a thirst-quenching drink,” he says.

Just a delightful 30-minute scenic drive into the country leads to the Thirsty Acres Restaurant and Bar in the picturesque rural village of Kirwee. This venue provides the perfect mix of modern hospitality and charm offering a peaceful retreat from the buzz of Christchurch’s showcase week. If you’re in Christchurch for Cup and Show Week, why not venture out into the Canterbury countryside for a dose of Kirwee charm?

“We have always had a large menu and we can truly say we use local produce from the surrounding farms,” Jono says. “The menu does evolve, but there is no way we could take off our burgers, schnitzel, fish and chips, or wagyu beef – they are so popular.”

As an extra bonus, it’s also possible to extend the celebration of A&P shows out in Kirwee because on Saturday 21 November there is the Courtenay A&P Show. It’s the last A&P show before Christmas, and the venue is just a five-minute walk from Thirsty Acres. Head to the website for more information at thirstyacres.co.nz.
