Signs to look out for include children not seeing something in the distance, tired eyes, moving closer to a TV or device, headaches, squinting, screwing up eyes, struggling with reading, and reduced school performance. Optometry research provides a range of treatment options. Some correct vision, while others correct and slow the progression of myopia. Kim Stedman, of Anstice Optometrists, recommends an annual eye test to stay on top of children’s eye health. It is vital, she says, that parents discuss correcting their child’s short-sightedness with their optometrist, and look at the best management options. “Acting early makes all the difference to growing a confident child,” Kim adds.
