New research reveals the cities worldwide with the strongest sense of car culture community, but where does Christchurch rank?

Neighbouring cities like Munich, Austin and London, Christchurch has been named one of the world’s best cities for its car-loving community. With a ‘car-munity’ score of 41%, Christchurch’s car culture is one of the strongest in the world thanks to its mix of automotive interests, from classic motors to American muscle cars, Japanese imports and European sports cars.

The research from Autotrader, the United Kingdom’s largest automotive platform, analyses the number of car meet-ups, auto events and motor shows in over 400 cities worldwide. It also tracks the number of Instagram posts associated with each city’s car meets, to show how strong the car-loving community presence is in each location. Christchurch car-munity events like April’s Supercars at Ruapuna Park display the city’s motoring passion, attracting locals and tourists alike.

On the podium sits the United States’ Austin, Texas, closely followed by Toronto in Canada and South Africa’s Cape Town. Christchurch lands in 10th place.
